We must take immediate businesslike action to limit climate change to
2 degrees C, not for ourselves, but for future generations.
           - Richard McNeall
CFCE Policy Statement.

1) Deliver Strong Early Action on Climate Change:

> Drive emissions reduction with strong carbon tax (including fuel) right
through to  consumer level, reducing the tax burden in other areas.

> Limit global warming to 2 degrees C

> Reduce emissions by 80% from 1990 levels by 2050 with solid interim targets
(to achieve CSIRO and Stern's 60-90%)

> Support nuclear power given the high level of CO2 reductions that will be
required in the long term (Australia is 36x the sustainable level).
With carbon tax and a level playing field, the best option(s) will emerge.

> Support R&D in both conventional and renewable sectors

> Strongly support efficiency improvements

> Promote acceptance of a fair economic cost for climate measures

> Challenge distractions, delays and half-measures

> Ensure good climate policy passes the Senate under all circumstances.

2) Maintain Our Strong Economic Performance:

> Support a Liberal-style approach to the economy

> Ensure budget discipline and sound governance

> Support enterprise and reward for effort

> Ensure certainty and adequate notice for business on climate initiatives

> Avoid policies that drive emissions offshore with no net greenhouse benefit

> Avoid over-regulation in response to climate change.  Market based
innovation with a strong carbon price signal will be far more effective.

3) Recognise Our Responsibility To All Concerned:

> Take a small 'l' liberal approach to social issues

> Implement a thorough, constructive and public review for the IR system,
to support productivity in a just and fair manner

> Put more effort into Indigenous reconciliation and health

> Assist Pacific Islanders and others in our region affected by climate change

> Ensure anti-terrorism measures do not undermine basic rights
(e.g. Hicks)

4) Protect the Environment:

> Provide greater protection for native forests

> Oppose the planned Gunns pulp mill near Launceston, to avoid locking-in
    demand for native forest woodchips

Candidates:

> Strong and mainstream with a history of taking their responsibilities seriously

> Able to work constructively with any government
